Altyn is an impressionist artist who uses glass to capture a landscape’s line, motion, color, and season. Experience his glass in different light conditions to feel wind in your hair, warmth on your face, water flowing around you, night chill on your skin, rough hide on your fingertips. Patrons often exclaim, “I’ve been there! You captured my place!” Altyn discovered his approach through inspiration and experimentation after one technique lesson in 2002. Every step in the process is a challenging self-satisfying invitation to flow, to be fully absorbed into the immediacy of vision, tactile response, and result. His creative process begins with selecting sheets of rolled art glass whose texture, translucence, reflectivity, pattern, and color invoke nature in the way of impressionist landscape paintings. Altyn may see the principal lines of a panel in the glass, or he may follow a mountain or a sea island sketch.
