Marc Carmen
Rittenhouse Fall 2024
Carmen explores the themes of wholeness and symmetry in his glass work, while employing a clean, modern aesthetic. Each piece begins as molten glass, colored and shaped using Venetian glass blowing techniques. After cooling, the works are then further refined through a series of cutting, grinding, and polishing processes. Carmen works without the help of an assistant, an anomaly in the art of glassblowing. After a career in construction, Carmen utilized his engineering experience to design and build custom furnaces and studio equipment to suit his unique style of solo glassmaking. Carmen studied glassblowing at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina, the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, and Urbanglass in Brooklyn, New York.
