What is constantly on my mind in my creative process is balance. Balance between aesthetics and functionality. Balance between Asian sensibilities and Western art school training. I want my work to be innovative yet approachable, playful yet stimulating. Since I was not classically trained as a ceramicist, the innocence of traditional doctrines and rules actually provide me with greater freedom in my exploration of pottery making. Plenty of mistakes have been made in this particular endeavor. Nevertheless, the rare successes from those mistakes keep me constantly engaged.
