Jennifer España has been a potter since 2010. What started as therapeutic exercise morphed into a desire to make quality handmade pottery that is utilitarian and a celebration of our daily lives. Whether making an "ordinary"mug or a "humble"bowl , I explore different forms and surface decorations to elicit feelings of fun and playfulness while enhancing the piece's beauty and function. Although I describe my pottery as eclectic, the common theme in my craft is color on or in my pieces. I enjoy using glazes and stains that move, run and produce kaleidoscopic effects.
While mass produced pottery can be beautiful, it is predictable and generic. It's that feeling of making something special that calls me to the studio and inspires me to play with clay. Handmade pottery captures our individuality and is never boring.
