Chase 2024
As a woodworker, my goal is to capture the dynamic energy and movement from the natural world into a piece that adds usefulness and joy to everyday living. I practiced woodworking for over a decade during evenings and weekends, attending workshops and learning from numerous experts along the way. My passion for the craft led me to leave my full-time job of science writing and move into the field professionally. I attended The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine, first during their nine-month comprehensive program and then as a Fellow in their Fellowship program.

In bringing life to a piece, I often add a pop of color or different material, such as metal, glass and cork. Much of my joy in woodworking comes from the making, bringing together the science and precision with the forms and beauty in the natural world. I also love the tactile experience of the craft, uncovering a plank of wood's unique features and grain, then working those into the finished design.
