Complex light and structure relationships found within shallow water systems reflect my own perspectives on life, especially though flipped perspectives and shifting, broken, and merging images. I make painting outdoors from life; in the the studio I go for a more lyrical notion of landscape.
My studio work focuses on interpreting those tender environments for what I term constructed landscapes. I propose familiar forms in odd relationships to each other and the viewer, proposing the question “where do I stand”. A strong vertical as a simplified tree may well be advising the viewer as to where they stand, offering perspective and stability. Reconciling reflection across shadow around object as a form of visual calisthenics, for me puts chaos into order.
