Creating artwork for all of life’s rituals is what inspires me. Designing both Judaica and secular pottery that people can interact with daily in the home is my passion and it is particularly rewarding for me to make ritual pieces to be used weekly for Shabbat and throughout the year for holidays. I am inspired by jewish folk art from around the world, such as ornate metal wall Menorahs, or iconography in decorative marriage contracts and paper cut artwork. I am also inspired by Jewish agricultural themes, and I decorate surfaces with imagery of the seven species of fruits and grains grown in Israel as described in the Torah; wheat, barley, olives, grapes, dates, figs, pomegranate. Whether drinking a cup of coffee from my mug or saying prayers over candles with my candlesticks, I hope my ceramics bring my customers moments of beauty and appreciation of the ritual.
