I grew up in the plains of Texas with no native trees and little greenery. Stickers, tumble weeds, and dirt devils were my outdoor companions. Thus, I experienced deep beauty and tranquility in the rich pine forests or my grandmother’s home in Houston. I believe these experiences inform my love of botanical and organic forms, layered in rich and abundant compositions. I create my art using primarily alcohol inks, an exciting and relatively new medium to mainstream art. With no tradition to start from, my work is exploratory and experimental. Inks based in isopropyl alcohol contain within them unusual chemical components and capturing the dynamic reactions of the inks to each other is part of the joy of working with them. The inherent dynamic properties of alcohol inks lend themselves nicely to intuitive and impressionistic techniques.
