Rittenhouse Fall 2026
Shinobu's work draws profound inspiration from her Japanese heritage. Her grandmother served as a master of ceremonies in traditional teahouses, instilling deep cultural roots. She received formal training in display design at a prestigious school in Tokyo and apprenticed under Shogo Kariyazaki, the renowned Ikebana artist and floral designer.

She forages local materials to create her clay and handcrafts glazes from natural ashes—including seaweed, oyster shells, wood, rice husks, and straw. Her process relies on ancient techniques: wood-firing in traditional kilns and throwing on a classic Japanese kick wheel, preserving primitive methods of Japanese artistry.

Central to her creations is the philosophy of wabi-sabi, which celebrates beauty in imperfection, asymmetry, and the fleeting nature of existence. This timeless aesthetic infuses her pieces with authenticity and quiet elegance.
